Andrew Barnes Memorial Award

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student entering their third or fourth year of an Honours Specialization or Double Major in Political Science, based on academic achievement (minimum 70% average) and financial need. Candidates must demonstrate their involvement with volunteer work at the University and/or in the community. This award was established by the family of Andrew Barnes (BA, Political Science '05) through Foundation Western. Andrew is remembered by those who knew and loved him for his commitment to voluntary work on campus (particularly Foot Patrol), love of sports, academic excellence, sense of humour, and warm personality.

How to Apply:

  • Submit a one-page statement describing your volunteer efforts and how they have benefited others to the Dean's Office, SSC Room 9438
  • Complete a Financial Assistance Profile Application via Student Centre

Award Value: $1,125

Andrew Grant Scholarship in Second Year Political Science

Awarded to the student with the highest standing (minimum 80%) in their second year of an Honours Specialization in Political Science.

Scholarship Value: $600

Andrew Grant Scholarship in Third Year Political Science

Awarded to the student with the highest standing (minimum 80%) in their third year of an Honours Specialization in Political Science.

Scholarship Value: $600

Gracey Family Continuing Scholarship

Awarded in odd years to an undergraduate student entering their second year of Honours Degree in Political Science, who achieves a minimum 85% academic average. The scholarship will continue beyond second year, provided that the recipient remains in an Honours Political Science program and maintains an 80% academic average and full-time course load. If the student fails to qualify, another student from the same year and program, who meets the above criteria will be selected. This scholarship was developed as a generous gift from Mr. Donald P. Gracey through Foundation Western.

Scholarship Value: $1,000, continuing up to three years

John A. McNee Award

Available to a second year student in an Honours Bachelor degree program entering an Honours Specialization in Political Science or a Double Major in Political Science who can demonstrate financial need and who has earned the highest academic average in his or her first year. This award was established through Foundation Western to honour the memory of John A. McNee, a graduate of Western in Economics and Political Science, who had a lifelong interest and involvement in politics.

Mark and Andrea McQueen & Family Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student in their second, third or fourth year of an Honours Specialization, Major or Minor in Political Science, based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average) and involvement in student politics such as the University Students' Council, Board of Governors, Political Science Association or other campus political clubs. A one-page statement outlining this involvement must be submitted to the Political Science Office by September 30th. A scholarship committee within the Faculty of Social Science will select the recipient. This scholarship was established by a generous gift from Mark (BA '88, Honours Political Science) and Andrea McQueen.

Award Value: 1 @ $1,700

Mark McQueen Award in Political Science

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student in third or fourth year in the Department of Political Science (with a minimum 70% average). Preference will be given to a student who has actively participated in at least two of the following: University Students’ Council,The Gazette, varsity sports, a USC political club, a sorority/fraternity,University Senate and/or Board of Governors. Candidates must submit a one-page statement outlining the student’s participation in these extra-curricular events to the Dean’s Office in Social Science by September 30th. A committee in the Faculty of Social Science will select the recipient. Established in 2015 by Rod McQueen (Honours English 1967, LL.D 2007) in admiration of his son Mark (Honours Political Science 1988).

 $1,900 (Effective Date: 2022-2023 academic year)

Martin W. Westmacott Award

Awarded to a fourth year student in the Honours Specialization module who has shown the greatest academic improvement since second year. Only Political Science courses will be considered. The intent of the award is to foster and reward hard work and perseverance in the pursuit of academic excellence. This award is dedicated in the name of Martin W. Westmacott, Professor of Political Science, and is presented by students of Politics at Western.

Robert A.D. Ford Award

 

Awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate student in History or Political Science, who has a primary interest in Canadian foreign policy or international affairs. Award to alternate between undergraduate and graduate students. Established through Foundation Western by distinguished Canadian diplomat, Dr. Robert A.D. Ford, C.C.

Award Value: $800
Application: None required
